Shanti-Doot Nehru

Shanti-Doot Nehru is a biographical novel by Birendra Mohan Raturi that chronicles the life and legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister. Written shortly after Nehru’s death in 1964, the book opens with a moving account of his final days, portraying a tireless leader who dedicated his life to India’s freedom, progress, and the cause of world peace.

The narrative traces Nehru’s journey from his privileged childhood in Allahabad, through his education in England, to his awakening as a nationalist leader inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian freedom struggle. It highlights his role in the fight against British rule, his repeated imprisonments, and his emergence as a visionary statesman.

More than a political biography, the book presents Nehru as a humanist, internationalist, and advocate of peace whose influence extended beyond India’s borders. It portrays his lifelong commitment to democracy, social progress, and a more peaceful world.
